Hello, Amigos !
I am excited to share with you my latest young adult novel, “The Miami Kid in the Wild West.” The story follows Alex Manzanillo, a fifth grader from Coconut Grove, Miami, who moves to a fictional town in Arizona called Sunset Canyon. Through his eyes, we explore the challenges and adventures he faces as the new kid in a predominantly white suburban community.
What makes Alex’s story special?
As Alex navigates his new environment, he deals with typical fifth-grade issues like making friends, fitting in, and facing the ups and downs of school life. He also has to learn about American history, including the Civil War, while improving his grammar and syntax in English. His exceptional talent in baseball, both in the field and at hitting home runs, becomes a key factor in revitalizing the economy of Sunset Canyon.
Questions to ponder:1. What do you think Alex will find most challenging about fitting in at his new school?2. How do you think Alex’s love for baseball will help him make friends in Sunset Canyon?3. What lessons about friendship and standing out will Alex learn along the way?4. If you could give Alex one piece of advice about dealing with new situations, what would it be?5. What do you hope to see in Alex’s journey as he aims for the Little League World Series Championship games?
I hope you join the conversation and share your thoughts in the comments! Together, we can explore Alex’s journey and how his story can inspire other young people to face their own challenges. See you on the baseball field!
